Path to MU:
After receiving his Ph.D. in animal science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Yuan accepted a position at MU as a research scholar in the Life Sciences Center.

Current work:
Yuan is currently working on a project that uses pigs as models for generating iPS cells — induced pluripotent stem cells. Because they are very similar to humans, the pigs are being used to study human diseases. Yuan is also strategizing on ways to turn pig cells into stem cells.

Current goals:
Yuan’s main goal is to obtain grants that will fund his own research.

Biggest surprise about Columbia:
Yuan was most surprised about the positive work and social environment, as well as the enjoyable restaurants and great places to explore.
