Path to MU:
Olga Us is a 2015 participant in the Russian International Education Administration Program, which is facilitated by the Fulbright Program and the Institute for International Education. This program is specifically designed for Russians in the field of higher education to learn more about working with students with regard to their international experiences, such as studying abroad. Ms. Us is the head of the International Students and Scholars Division at Vladivostok State University of Economics and Service in Vladivostok, Russia. Before spending time at MU from March 5– April 7, Ms. Us completed the academic component of the program by spending one month at Indiana University Bloomington, where she attended various lectures and seminars regarding the higher education system in the United States. She also participated in a one-week conference for international education administrators in Washington, D.C., following a one-week Fulbright seminar series in New York.

Current work:
Ms. Us’ current work includes observing the higher education system at MU and how the university interacts with international students. She also focuses on the organizational structure of the International Center and how it coordinates with Residential Life, MU academic units, immigration compliance and American insurance providers.

Current goals:
Ms. Us’ goals include utilizing her experiences at MU to further advance the International Students and Scholars Division at Vladivostok State University of Economics and Service.

Biggest surprise about the U.S.:
Ms. Us sees many similarities between American and Russian cultures, but was most surprised by the cash-back option at the grocery store cash registers in the U.S.
